Garza Solid, But Lee Better As Phillies Take Saturday Matinee

The Cubs needed Matt Garza Saturday to be nearly flawless if they had any plans on beating Cliff Lee and the Phillies. Garza put together a great outing, but Cliff Lee was better as the Phillies (39-26) took game three of the series 7-1.

Matt Garza took the loss for the Cubs (25-38) dropping his record to 2-6 on the season. Garza pitched great on Saturday going six innings giving up two runs (one earned) on just five hits. He left the game trailing 2-1 and turned the game over to the bullpen. Sean Marshall and Casey Coleman got roughed up for five more runs putting the game out of reach.

Cliff Lee continued his dominance of the Cubs. Lee (6-5) went eight innings and gave up one run on just four hits and struckout seven. All four of the hits Lee gave up were singles.

Shane Victorino and Chase Utley were the hitting stars in game three of the series. Utley drove in four runs and also hit his second homer of the season. Victorino supplied three hits and also scored three runs.

The Cubs will look to gain a split in the four game series when the two teams meet again in the series finale on Sunday afternoon.
