Ramirez,Dempster Lead Cubs in Series Finale

The Pirates have had the Cubs number the past few seasons. In Sunday’s finale they scored two runs in the first inning and things looked as gloomy as the weather for the Cubs in game three of the three game set. Thanks to Ryan Dempster the Pirates wouldn’t score again and the Cubs held on to beat the Pirates 3-2 Sunday at Wrigley.

Sunday’s finale looked for a while like it wouldn’t happen. Thanks to Fog and Rain, the first pitch was delayed for over two and a half hours. Luckily for the Cubs (23-28) though the rain stopped and they got the game in.

Aramis Ramirez homered for only the second time this season and Ryan Dempster finally is looking like the ace of the staff. Dempster went six innings and allowed two runs on only four hits. He improved to 4-4 on the season and has won his last three starts.

Jeff Karstens took the loss for Pittsburgh (24-27). Karstens didn’t pitch terrible allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits. The righty fell to 3-4 on the season.

The Cubs will finish their nine game homestand with a series against the Houston Astros. The first game of the series is Monday afternoon.
