New Chicago Cubs President of Baseball Operations Theo Epstein didn't bring either one up during his press conference Tuesday afternoon, but Padres executives Jed Hoyer and Jason McLeod are still expected to join their former colleague in Chicago by next Monday according to ESPN.
Hoyer, San Diego's GM, and McLeod, the team's scouting director, have reportedly both been in Chicago recently and plan to get the old gang back together on the North Side. Epstein, Hoyer and McLeod used to work together in Boston when Epstein was at the helm there, and rumors have been running rampant that the three plan to team up once again to bring a championship to the Cubs.
ESPN reports that Epstein's first job in Chicago will be to run the press conference announcing the additions of Hoyer and McLeod, and that compensation between the Cubs and Padres has already been worked out. While Epstein avoided committing to any answer when discussing possible GM candidates earlier Tuesday, it's becoming quite clear that Hoyer and McLeod will be two of his key people.
