New Chicago Bulls point guard Marquis Teague met the media today, and he talked about his selection by the Bulls, what he feels he can bring to the table in his rookie season and what he will look to improve on as he assimilates into the NBA. As for being drafted by the Bulls, both Teague and Chicago GM Gar Forman expressed surprise that Teague was still available when Chicago picked at No. 9 overall.
Said Teague:
"I was pretty surprised. I didn't have any workouts for this team. I didn't know where I was going to land. When they picked me, I was just happy to be part of this program and ready to get started. I just want to work hard and get better, help my team win."
Teague also touched on where his game stands right now, echoing most scouting reports of how he played during his freshman year at Kentucky:
"My strengths are I can attack the rim, make plays for myself and my teammates. And I can defend. My weaknesses are I need to work on my outside shot, get stronger and work on my off-the-ball defense."
