Bulls Free Agency 2012: Raptors Near Deal With John Lucas III, According To Report

The Toronto Raptors are closing in on a contract with free agent point guard John Lucas III, according to sources that have spoken with ESPN's Marc Stein. The two sides are reportedly in advanced discussions to complete a multi-year contract that will bring Lucas above the border.

After years as a journeyman, playing around Europe, Asia and the D-League, Lucas finally established himself in the NBA over the past two years with the Chicago Bulls. Playing a reserve role behind starter Derrick Rose and back-up C.J. Watson, injuries afforded him the opportunities to flash his impressive scoring ability.

In Toronto, Lucas will presumably remain on the bench, filling a back-up role behind the Raptors' new starting point guard, Kyle Lowry. Toronto still has Jose Calderon around, but Stein notes that both sides are working on trade possibilities to find the Spaniard a new home.
