Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose will miss his 18th game of the season tonight when the Detroit Pistons visit the United Center. Pretty much automatically, that takes him out of the running to repeat as MVP. What began to look like a landslide victory for Miami Heat forward LeBron James has become a two- or three-horse race in recent weeks, with the Lakers' Kobe Bryant, the Thunder's Kevin Durant, and the Timberwolves' Kevin Love also drumming up some MVP support.
Today, Rose was asked who thinks deserve the award. Like a boss, he disses LeBron. Kinda.
From ESPN Chicago:
"KD is playing great," Rose said. "I'm hearing about what he's doing, hearing about how he's playing. The numbers speak for itself, how he's working out this summer, and he's playing great basketball.
So....who'd be second?
"(Minnesota's Kevin Love) K-Love been putting in work, too, but I think KD."
Ha! Rose knows LBJ is PR toxin, and after the Heat drummed the Bulls last season in the Eastern Conference Finals -- and with a rematch likely looming this summer -- our humble lead guard wasn't about to say a nice thing about James. Taking a subtle shot at the self-proclaimed 'King' will never not help the Q Score.
Derrick Rose: just like you or me.
