So perhaps the Deep Dish was a bit premature in its idea earlier Sunday morning that this afternoon's Bulls press conference was being called to name Derrick Rose league MVP.
↵↵Chicago Breaking Sports reports that the real purpose of the news conference is to announce that Tom Thibodeau will be given NBA Coach of the Year honors:
↵↵Capping a wildly successful first year, the Chicago Bulls' Tom Thibodeau will be named the NBA's Coach of the Year on Sunday, sources told the Tribune.↵↵↵
↵A news conference with the Bulls and the NBA is set for 3:30 p.m. at the Berto Center.
Presuming this is true, congratulations in advance to "Tibs" for this honor, and a job well done in not only his first season as Bulls head coach, but his first season as an NBA head coach. Thibodeau, though, has his priorities straight regarding this:
↵↵"I don't care about any of that stuff," Thibodeau said recently. "I just want to win."↵↵
Damn right. This doesn't mean, incidentally, that MVP honors for Derrick Rose might not also be announced this afternoon. Stay tuned.
