Bulls Announce 'Major NBA Announcement'

On Friday, Bulls backup guard C.J. Watson tweeted this surprising announcement:

Congrats to drose on winning the MVP he's played unbelievable this season!!! now just need tibs to win coach of the yrless than a minute ago via Echofon Favorite Retweet Reply

Well, of course no official announcement had been made then and, as the Tribune pointed out:

↵↵
The NBA declined to comment on Watson's tweet. The league has awarded the MVP in the first week of May in recent seasons. The league also likes to announce the award the day before a home playoff game and then have Commissioner David Stern present it to the winner before a home playoff crowd.

For his part, Derrick Rose exhibited his usual modesty:

↵↵
"If I get it, it will be nice, unbelievable, a goal I said at the beginning of the year that I wanted to achieve," Rose said.
↵↵

And, tweaked his teammate a little:

↵↵
"I didn't say anything to him about that, but I'm happy he's doing that," Rose said. "It means a lot coming from him. C.J. knows a lot of people out here, a lot of famous people too. So watch that guy."

Sunday morning, the Bulls sent out a press release that said a "major NBA/Chicago Bulls announcement" would be made at the Berto Center in Deerfield at 3:30 p.m. CDT Sunday afternoon. Given the statement above that the league likes to announce these things "the day before a home playoff game" and then make the presentation at such a game, we can likely draw the conclusion that Watson's tweet was correct, and that Rose will be named league MVP today and get his trophy at tomorrow's game vs. the Atlanta Hawks.

So, in advance, congratulations to D-Rose. (And the Deep Dish hopes this speculation is right!)
