One thing that defines many NBA players is their shoe. Michael Jordan may have started this trend decades ago with his "Air Jordan" shoe.

Today, as the 2011 NBA playoffs get under way here in Chicago, the Bulls' Derrick Rose will carry on that tradition by playing his postseason games wearing what adidas terms "the lightest shoe in basketball", the new adiZero Crazy Light. The shoe weighs only 9.8 ounces and adidas says it's 15% lighter than its "nearest competitor" and can help players be faster and improve their performance on the court. Rose is convinced:

“Lighter footwear makes you faster and speed dominates on the basketball court,” said Derrick Rose, two-time NBA All-Star of the top-seeded Chicago Bulls. “The adiZero Crazy Light is the lightest basketball shoe I’ve ever worn and it will no doubt make me faster on the court for our playoff run.”

Rose is already one of the fastest players in the game. If this shoe makes him faster... well, watch out, Bulls opponents. The Bulls' series with the Indiana Pacers gets underway Saturday at 12 noon Central time.
