Blackhawks Vs. Capitals: Chicago Takes 2-0 Lead After First Period

The Chicago Blackhawks are fighting hard for that playoff position with an early 2-0 lead against the Washington Capitals. Andrew Shaw scored the first goal just 3:35 into the contest, while that goal was followed up by a score from Viktor Stalberg at the 7:44 mark.

Chicago dominated offensively, with 12 shots on goal compared to Washington's three, which included one from Alex Ovechkin that was stopped by at the goal. The Blackhawks had one power play in the period, but did not convert.

The Capitals are having a mediocre month of March, with 4-4 record so far. A loss to the Blackhawks would give them a losing record at this point in March.
