The Chicago Blackhawks had a bit more luck getting shots on goal against the St. Louis Blues in the second period, but they still trail 1-0 going into the game's final period on Sunday afternoon. After a pair of games that showed off just how good the Blackhawks can be offensively, they've struggled to put the puck in the net against an elite St. Louis team.
After allowing the Blues to take a major advantage in terms of shots on goal in the first period, the Blackhawks did a better job of attacking offensively in the second period but couldn't take advantage of those opportunities. Blues goaltender Brian Elliott has been impressive so far, saving all 13 shots that Chicago has sent in his direction.
The Blues still have a sizable advantage in shots on goal, but Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford did a good job in the second period to prevent the lead from expanding. Capitalizing on power play opportunities should be important going forward, as Chicago has gone 0-for-3 with the advantage so far.
