After an eventful opening period, there was no scoring in the second, and the Chicago Blackhawks maintained a 2-1 lead over division rival Detroit. The Blackhawks took a quick 2-0 lead in this one thanks to goals by Dave Bolland and Patrick Sharp, though that first period was not without some bad news, as Sharp suffered an injury that has so far prevented his return to the game. His status remains up in the air as the game heads to the third period.
Valtteri Filppula pulled Detroit to within 2-1 in the first with his 14th goal of the season, this one on the power play.
Chicago has a 20-15 edge in shots on net and has won 21 of 35 faceoffs.
