Chicago Blackhawks Vs. St. Louis Blues Recap: Power Plays Work In Hawks Favor, Chicago Wins 5-2

Despite facing a goalie in Brian Elliot who had been unstoppable of late, the Chicago Blackhawks (16-8-3, 35 pts) managed to crack the defense of the St. Louis Blues (14-9-3, 31 pts), winning 5-2. The Blackhawks fell down 1-0 early in the first period, but a wild second period pushed them to a 3-2 lead heading into the third.

The Blues, came into the game winning 8 of their last 11 games and had not allowed more than four goals -- in regulation or in shootouts -- since October 18 when they lost to the Los Angeles Kings 5-0. When the Blues went empty net in the waning moments of the third period, however, that streak of defensive prowess came to an end as Michael Frolik popped a shot through several Blues defenders for 5-2 Hawks lead.

All told, Chicago shined in the power plays. In their own three power plays, the Hawks managed to score two goals -- one by Marian Hossa and one by Patrick Sharp. And, in addition to killing each of the Blues four power plays, the Blackhawks were also able to score a shorthanded goal on Marian Hossa's second period, game-tying goal.

The Hawks will be in action again on Monday, December 5, when take on the Phoenix Coyotes.
