The Chicago Blackhawks were expected to roll through the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday at the United Center, and expectations came to fruition in the second period. After battling to a scoreless first period with Columbus, Chicago scored three times to take a commanding 3-0 lead after two periods.
Patrick Sharp got the scoring started for the 'Hawks with his 19th goal of the season five minutes into the period. The shot to beat Blue Jackets' goalie Steve Mason was assisted by Marian Hossa and veteran defenseman Sean O'Donnell.
Viktor Stalberg made it 2-0 'Hawks four minutes later. Stalberg's eighth goal of the season was assisted by Brent Seabrook. Stalberg would strike again to make it 3-0 before the final buzzer rang. Stalberg's ninth score of the season was set up by Duncan Keith and Dave Bolland.
Columbus has out-shot Chicago 24-17 through two periods. Chicago goalie Corey Crawford continues to impress in net.
