San Jose Sharks Center Andrew Desjardins Fined $2,500 For Hit On Chicago Blackhawks Defenseman Sami Lepisto

San Jose's Andrew Desjardins learned on Monday afternoon that he'll be paying a $2,500 fine for a hit he laid on Chicago defenseman Sami Lepisto early in the Sharks' 3-2 overtime loss:

Sharks center Andrew Desjardins was assessed a two-minute penalty for boarding defenseman Sami Lepisto at 2:12 in the first period. Desjardins hit Lepisto in the back and sent him crashing hard into the boards.

There is video of the hit in question at Puck Daddy; the play happens about 18 seconds in. Desjardins hits Lepisto in the back and sends him flying into the boards behind the net; fortunately, though, Lepisto was not injured by the collision. The $2,500 fine is the maximum allowed under the current collective bargaining agreement.
