The Chicago Blackhawks trailed for quite a while on Sunday night and appeared headed to a rare regulation defeat at home before Andrew Brunette saved the day with an equalizer with a little over a minute to play in the third period.
San Jose opened the scoring with a Jamie McGinn goal at 16:25 of the first period, and Chicago knotted the score on a Marcus Kruger goal about eight minutes into the second period. But the Sharks reclaimed the lead less than two minutes later and carried that 2-1 edge into the third period and down to the wire before Brunette broke through and sent the game to overtime. The Blackhawks took full advantage of a second lease on life and won the game in OT on a goal by Patrick Sharp.
Chicago returns to action on Wednesday against the Minnesota Wild.
