After a Stanley Cup season relatively free of serious injuries, the Blackhawks have lost defenseman Brian Campbell for four to five weeks with a knee sprain:
↵↵The veteran was injured early in the second period of Friday night's exhibition game against the Penguins when he was hit along the boards.↵↵↵↵"There's no good timing for injuries," Quenneville said. "Last year we started the year without (Marian) Hossa, (Dave) Bolland was hurt for a while and (Ben) Eager hurt. That's part of it. Our depth will always get tested and challenged and hopefully we have guys that are able to step in and provide quality play. This is a good test right ... off the start."
The Chicago Breaking Sports article goes on to say that this may give 19-year-old rookie Nick Leddy a chance to prove himself. The Hawks will play their final preseason game on Sunday at 5 p.m. at the United Center against the St. Louis Blues.
