Bears Coach Lovie Smith On Matt Forte Injury: 'Our Backup Plan Is Pretty Good'

The decision to sign highly-sought-after running back Michael Bush to a four-year, $14 million contract was one that left a lot of people scratching their heads as it came at a time when many felt they should be negotiating with their own Matt Forte. They eventually came to a long-term deal with Forte and the move to sign Bush appears to have been a wise one as he'll step in as the starter in Week 3.

"Michael [Bush] has started a lot in the league and has been in this role before," Bears head coach Lovie Smith told JeffDickerson of ESPN Chicago on Friday. "There are not many Matt Forte's out there but our backup plan is pretty good, and Mike's going to step in there and do a great job."

In the third quarter of a Thursday night loss to the Packers in Week 2, Forte suffered a sprained ankle that will hold him out of play in Week 3.
