Adam Podlesh Injury: Bears Unlikely To Sign New Punter

Chicago Bears punter Adam Podlesh injured his hip flexor during Saturday night's preseason game against the Redskins, but don't expect the Bears to search out an experienced replacement.

Podlesh injured his left hip flexor during Brandon Banks' 91-yard touchdown return on Saturday. Luckily Podlesh is right footed, but even still it is unknown how much time he will miss with this injury. Podlesh had arguably the best season of any Bears punter ever in 2011, as he was the first Bears punter to ever have a net average of over 40 yards for the season.

With Podlesh on the sideline for now the Bears are looking at youth rather than experience to serve as a stop gap. Signing a veteran punter, even for one week, could put the Bears on the hook for a full season salary; thus they are considering other options.

Undrafted rookie Ryan Quigley has been with the Bears for all of camp and had punts of 44 and 39 yards against the Redskins. He is expected to see all of the reps in the Bears preseason game with the Giants on Friday.
