Mark February 17, 2013, on your calendar. Hockey is coming to Soldier Field for the first time in history.
The sports marketing group Intersport announced the details of the 2013 Hockey City Classic on Friday, setting Feb. 17 as the official date for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to square off against the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks.
The event, according to CSN Chicago, will follow two weeks of winter festivities, including free public skating and high school and adult amateur hockey events.
Soldier Field is well known throughout the NFL as having the worst turf in the league, but the hockey event -- which will almost assuredly leave a black patch of dead grass a midfield -- will come before a whole re-sodding of the field in March.
