Despite some struggles on the field in recent years, Notre Dame continues to show that it can produce NFL talent. Robert Blanton is the latest member of the Fighting Irish to be selected in the 2012 NFL Draft, as the talented corner was chosen by the Minnesota Vikings with the 139th pick.
Blanton was a consistently steady contributor during his time at Notre Dame, using his high football IQ to earn playing time right when he stepped foot on campus. Blanton was very productive during his junior campaign, recording 63 tackles and two interceptions.
The former Notre Dame defensive back has the ability to play either cornerback or safety for a Vikings team that is looking to improve in all areas on the defensive side of the ball. With Leslie Frazier in charge, a physical player like Blanton should have the ability to contribute early on special teams.
