2012 NFL Draft Results: Kansas City Chiefs Select Illini OT Jeff Allen In 2nd Round

The Kansas City Chiefs have selected Illinois Fighting Illini offensive tackle Jeff Allen in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Allen is the third Illini player selected thus far, after first round picks defensive end Whitney Mercilus and wide receiver A.J. Jenkins.

Allen measured at 6-4, 307 lbs. at the combine and ran a 5.22 40-yard dash. He started all 13 games for Illinois in 2011 at right tackle, and finished his career with 47 consecutive starts for the Illini.

Allen is said to have nice versatility in that he can play either side of the line. Scouts have lauded his size and have noted he is "country strong". Allen isn't in great shape, and is said to have a big belly.

Versatility, durability and football smarts are all considered a plus.
