Bears Free Agency 2012: Chicago Will Not Re-Sign QB Caleb Hanie, According To Report

According to a report from ESPN Chicago's Jeff Dickerson, the Chicago Bears do not plan to re-sign backup quarterback Caleb Hanie, who is a free agent. In a discussion last month, Lovie Smith talked about the necessity of going in a different direction with the backup QB spot.

"Each year you learn something," Smith said last month. "We thought we had a better plan at quarterback. I knew how valuable Jay was to us and that won't change, but we do need to get ourselves in a better position at that backup quarterback position."

Hanie started four games in 2011 after Jay Cutler went down with injury but did little to impress fans or front office alike -- he completed just 50% of his passes and threw nine interceptions.
