Bears Free Agency 2012: Bears Expected To Pursue Vincent Jackson, May Fall Short

It's long been speculated that the Chicago Bears may try and address their need at wide receiver in the 2012 NFL Draft, but indications are that they will attempt to make a splash in free agency by pursuing ex-San Diego Chargers WR Vincent Jackson. According to Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times, the Bears will be one of the three most aggressive bidders for Jackson, along with the Washington Redskins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Bears are expected to have around $34 million in cap space heading into free agency, and though that's one of the top numbers in the NFL, it's dwarfed by Tampa's cap space, which is somewhere north of $60 million. If the Buccaneers (or the Redskins, taking into account their history under owner Daniel Snyder) decide to break the bank for Jackson, the Bears, according to Jensen, will likely fall short, but they are expected to initially be near the head of the pack.
