The Chicago Bears are likely to get veteran guard Chris Spencer back from injury soon, but according to John Mullin of CSN Chicago, the team is likely to stick with rookie James Brown at the left guard spot.
Spencer played his way back into the starting lineup at left guard when Chilo Rachal was benched (and subsequently shelved for the remainder of the season after leaving practice following his demotion) following a poor game against the San Francisco 49ers.
But he went down with a knee injury in the loss to to the Seattle Seahawks, and Edwin Williams took over the role. He played poorly against the Minnesota Vikings, so the team turned to the undrafted free agent in Brown.
According to the piece, offensive coordinator Mike Tice said of James "He's a big guy. When he hits you in the pocket, you stay hit. We anticipate James being in the mix this week." When an offensive lineman receives praise like that, smart money is on him getting the start.
