The Chicago Bears surprised him when they brought him in, but cornerback Zack Bowman is happy to have another chance in the Windy City. Bowman was signed by the Bears on Tuesday, even though he was passed over for a re-signing when his rookie deal expired this offseason. Bowman had a quote on ESPN Chicago in which he talked about being back:
"I don't know what they want me to do yet, I just appreciate the opportunity to play football again. I'm excited just to practice and run around on the field with the guys. That's what I'm really looking forward to. I've only been gone since January but it feels like a long time. Minnesota was really similar to Chicago, so I sat in meetings today and basically knew everything."
Bowman said he was shocked when the Bears called, as he was expecting to hear things from another team such as the New England Patriots, who are constantly looking for help in their secondary. Still, his role is unclear at this point. Bowman practiced Wednesday, but the Bears are pretty set at the position. They don't even need significant depth at this point, so it's likely that Bowman is around for his special teams value.
Still, any opportunity is still an opportunity. Perhaps Bowman can get some good tape if he manages to work his way into the game on Monday against the Detroit Lions. Bowman recently spent time with the Minnesota Vikings, where he was cut one day after the final rosters were set.
