Jerry Angelo Fired: HC Lovie Smith Thankful For Angelo, But Looks Forward To New GM

On Tuesday morning, the Chicago Bears announced they had fired their general manager Jerry Angelo, while retaining their head coach, Lovie Smith. The Bears will officially announce their personnel changes in Tuesday a press conference at 4 PM CST.

In anticipation of presser, beat writing Zach Zaidman caught up with Lovie Smith, extracting several quotes from the 7-year head coach concerning the recently released Angelo:

"I will always be thankful to Jerry [Angelo] for hiring me..."

...

"We always had an excellent working relationship and he helped us win a lot of football games."

Smith also commented on the future of the Bears organization, excited about the possibility of building a winning team again:

"I look forward to working with a new general manager to bring a championship to Chicago."

...

"As I said yesterday, we have an excellent core in place."
