Some rumors earlier Monday indicated that the Chicago Bears were close to making Kansas City scouting director Phil Emery their next general manager, but according to this update from the Tribune's Dan Pompei, those reports were premature:
A source said a report that the team was on the verge of agreeing to terms with Chiefs scouting director Phil Emery was not accurate. Emery is believed to be a leading candidate for the job, however.
Pompei adds that the team may want to conduct a second interview with Emery or the other potential candidates, and a decision may not come this week.
The Sun-Times' Sean Jensen also says that no offer to Emery has been made:
Just landed in Mobile. #Bears HAVE NOT offered Phil Emery the job... Yet. I suspect another round of interviews— Sean Jensen (@skjensen) January 23, 2012
Another round of interviews could push the decision process into the next week.
