This morning on 780 WBBM in Chicago, Bears head coach Lovie Smith confirmed reports that Jay Cutler fractured his thumb in Sunday's victory over the San Diego Chargers. Smith said that Cutler will see specialists this morning, but refused to speculate on how long Cutler would be out. It is expected that Cutler will miss most, if not all, of the remainder of the regular season.
The Bears will presumably turn to back up QB Caleb Hanie, who famously relieved Cutler after an injury in last year's NFC Championship game. For his career, Hanie is 8-14 passing for 66 yards, with zero touchdowns and one interception. He has never started a game in his career.
