Former Bear Leslie Frazier In Running For Golden Gophers Coaching Job

Just one day after the University of Minnesota fired football coach Tim Brewster after the team got off to a 1-6 start, a report in the Star-Tribune in Minnesota says that the school is considering former Bear Leslie Frazier for its head coaching slot:

Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier is interested in the Gophers head coaching job, according to league sources.↵

↵Frazier has interviewed for six NFL head coaching jobs in the past three years. The key in this situation is former Gophers great Tony Dungy, who is extremely close friends with Frazier. Dungy reportedly was set to hire Frazier as his head coach if he had agreed to become the Seattle Seahawks president this past offseason.↵

↵There is little doubt that Gophers officials either have or will seek Dungy's input on who to hire. It is a safe bet that Dungy would recommend Frazier for the job.

Frazier played five seasons for the Bears, including being a starting cornerback for the Super Bowl champions of 1985.
