The Bulls have taken first place, but it will be a challenge to hold on to that spot against some tough competition.

The Chicago Bulls travel to Memphis to face the Grizzlies at 7 p.m. CT on Monday night. The Bulls have won their last two games to grab sole possession of first place at 13-9. The Grizzlies have cooled off a bit after a fast start, but do have a 15-6 record overall.

Chicago returns home to Tuesday to host the Boston Celtics in a battle of perennial East contenders. The Celtics are off to a slow start, at just 12-11. The two teams met in the United Center on Nov. 12, with Boston grabbing a 101-95 victory.

Around the league, Jeremy Lin makes his return to Madison Square Garden as the Rockets face the Knicks at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. A key Western Conference battle also happens on Monday, as the Thunder face the Spurs at 8 p.m. in Oklahoma City.

The Knicks host another big game on Wednesday as they continue the "Battle of the Boroughs" series at 7 p.m. against the Brooklyn Nets.

For a full list of games, be sure to check out S.I.'s NBA schedule page.

The Bulls will be looking for a second-straight win when they host the Celtics on Monday night.

The Chicago Bulls welcome the Boston Celtics to town on Monday night at 7 pm. CT in the United Center. Chicago is coming off an 87-80 win on Saturday as they try to stay afloat while waiting for star Derrick Rose to return. The Bulls have done well without Rose so far, winning four of their first six games.

Luol Deng leads the team in scoring at 17.7 points per game, while Joakim Noah is averaging close to a double-double with 15 points and 9.2 rebounds a contest. The Bulls may be without point guard Kirk Hinrich against the Celtics, as he suffered a right hip strain on Saturday.

Boston has started slow out of the gate, splitting their first six games. The Celtics beat Milwaukee, 96-92, their last time out. The "big three" are still carrying the load for Boston, as Paul Piece leads the team in scoring at 20.8 points per game. Kevin Garnett is putting up 16 points and 8.7 rebounds, while Rajon Rando is scoring 14.7 points and dropping 13.3 assists per game.

Noah's interior battle with Garnett will be a key factor, and it will take a team effort for the Bulls to limit Rondo's penetration.

The game will be televised on CSN Chicago.

Kirk Hinrich's status is unclear for the Bulls for Monday's game against Boston.

Chicago Bulls point guard Kirk Hinrich strained his right hip in the first half of the team's win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, and he may miss time. The Bulls play the Boston Celtics on Monday night, and Chicago is unsure if Hinrich will play, according to CSN Chicago.

Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau spoke about Hinrich's injury on Sunday, and said the team is still waiting on the results of an MRI:

"He had an MRI this morning," Thibodeau explained after the team’s Sunday-afternoon practice at the United Center. "I still haven’t talked to [Bulls head trainer Fred Tedeschi], other than it’s a strain and right now, he’s day-to-day."

Hinrich is averaging 5.7 points, 5.0 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game this season for Chicago. He is struggling with his shot, especially from inside the arc. Hinrich is hitting just 33 percent from the field overall. Hinrich is a 42 percent shooter for his career, and has averaged 12.5 points per page.

Nate Robinson is expected to take over the starting point guard role should Hinrich be unable to go against the Celtics. Robinson has been a much better scorer so far this season, averaging 11.5 points per contest.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers beat the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday to take the lead in the Legends Division.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers and Wisconsin Badgers are in the driver's seats in their respective divisions after Saturday. The Cornhuskers lead Legends, while the Badgers are on top of Leaders.

Ohio State is tops overall in the Big Ten, but the Buckeyes and the second place Nittany Lions will not be eligibile for the title game. That leaves Wisconsin, who is 3-2 in conference play, well ahead of 1-3 Indiana.

Nebraska now holds a tiebreaker over Michigan and Northwestern, as the Cornhuskers have beaten both those teams. Nebraska is still no guarantee for the division title, as they have a trip to East Lansing to face Michigan State and Penn State at home remaining on their schedule.

With two of the conference's top teams ineligible, it will surely be an exciting battle down the stretch as Legends and Leaders teams work for the chance to play in the title game for a shot at the Rose Bowl.

The Northwestern Wildcats notched a homecoming victory over the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday, and the performance of quarterback Kain Colter was a big reason for the win. Northwestern fans were happy to see Colter come up big, and make plays with his arm and feet.

Rodger Sherman of Northwestern blog Sippin' on Purple was excited about what he saw from Colter, and thought his big plays far outweighed any mistakes the junior signal-caller may have made:

Team Kain. Team Kain Team Kain Team Kain. Northwestern's offense was uninventive, but Iowa couldn't stop it, so it didn't really matter. Kain Colter absolutely murdered everything on the ground and although he had one pretty ugly overthrow that got picked, he showed that he could throw the ball downfield without the world ending, although the TD he tossed was kind of a duck. So that was nice. Only one pass for Trevor Siemian, and we could've done without it too. More of this, please.

Cain tallied 166 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries. He also completed 6/9 passes for 80 yards and a score. The win was the seventh for the Wildcats against just two losses.

Northwestern has a chance for a statement win next Saturday when they visit the Michigan Wolverines. Michigan is 5-3 overall, but 3-1 in Big Ten conference play. The Wolverines are coming off a blowout loss to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, where starting quarterback Denard Robinson left with an injury.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are right in the middle of the national title picture after their big win over the Sooners on Saturday.

Notre Dame has surpassed the Florida Gators and the Oregon Ducks to move into No. 3 in Week 10's BCS rankings. The Fighting Irish impressed humans and computers alike as they defeated the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman on Saturday night. ND has a real shot at the BCS National Championship, as a loss from No. 1 Alabama or No. 2 Kansas State could propel them into the title game.

The Irish are getting a bump so far from their schedule, as wins over Stanford and OU have helped them with the computers. Notre Dame will have to hope that USC can stop losing, as the Trojans are the only real schedule-boosters left for ND.

Oregon sits just behind the Irish at No. 4. The Ducks are No. 2 in the Coaches Poll, but have yet to play a tough schedule. That will change with Stanford, Oregon State, and USC down the stretch. Notre Dame may need to hope for a Ducks loss, otherwise Oregon may jump them.

Oregon's still very much in the running, however -- even though they've been losing ground in the standings for a couple weeks now, their schedule is back-loaded. They have USC, Stanford and Oregon State still to go, plus a likely Pac-12 Championship Game appearance. Four quality wins could put the Ducks into the title game over other unbeatens, but we've still got a long way to go.

Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson didn't light up the Michigan State secondary on Saturday, but he didn't turn the ball over, either. The latter helped the Irish earn the 20-3 victory over the Spartans in East Lansing, Mich.

Golson made it two straight games without an interception, and he has earned the "game manager" title in the process. While completing 14/32 passes, as Golson did against Michigan State, isn't going to sustain many drives, no interceptions helps eliminate easy scoring opportunities for the oppositon.

Irish head coach Brian Kelly spoke with reporters about Golson, according to CSNChicago.com:

"He did some really good things, but we've got a long way to go," Kelly said of Golson. "He needs to continue to stay on task, Everett, and continue to develop each and every week. There are a lot of things. We are so far from where we need to be offensively. I think a lot of it is just in the stuff that we're doing right now. We don't need to extend the playbook any deeper."

Golson has completed 58 percent of his passes for 611 yards and three touchdowns, compared to just one interception. His 7.5 yards per attempt is not spectacular, but certainly average, and average is all Notre Dame needs from Golson right now.
