Bears Vs. Packers: Charles Tillman Is Key Part Of Bears Special Teams

Bears starting cornerback Charles Tillman injured his shin during Chicago's Week 1 game against the Colts, but it was not on defense. He was injured while playing on the punt return team. When asked why Tillman was on punt return, special teams coordinator Dave Toub told the Tribune that Tillman's inclusion made a lot of sense:

"We have approximately seven starters that play at least one phase: punt, punt return, kickoff, kickoff return,'' Toub said. "We've got to have him on the field because he's the best guy that we've got. He can shut down a gunner single-handedly. There are not many guys that can do that.''

Tillman is expected to play Thursday, when the Bears face the Green Bay Packers. He did not practice Tuesday, however, and his return is far from certain, especially given the short week.
