Four golfers are tied for second at -5, including Rory McIlroy, and behind them there is an even larger group at four under.

Northwestern alum Luke Donald finished the day +2, as did former Illini golfer Steve Stricker. Illinois native D.A. Points is also over par.

Elsewhere in the field, Graeme McDowell and John Daly are among the golfers at -4, and Tiger Woods finished three under par. Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson didn't fare so well, but at +1 they've hardly played their way out of contention.

The top five:

1. Carl Pettersson (-6)
T2. Rory McIlroy (-5)
T2. Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano (-5)
T2. Gary Woodland (-5)
T2. Alex Noren (-5)
