The United States rode a historic performance from LeBron James to a 119-82 victory over Australia on Wednesday, pushing the team one step closer to another gold medal. The Americans were challenged early by Australia, but their talent proved overwhelming in a dominant fourth quarter effort.
James was absolutely unreal for Team USA, becoming the first player to ever record a triple-double in an Olympic game. Leading the Americans with 11 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists, James was a dominant force even though he only took seven shots over the course of the entire game.
Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant and Deron Williams handled most of the scoring load for the U.S., combining to score 69 points. Bryant was particularly impressive in the second half, leading the offensive charge by shooting 6-of-10 from three-point range in the game.
With the win, the Americans now move on to the semifinals, just two victories away from a second consecutive gold medal in men's basketball. The U.S. now awaits a match-up with Argentina, winners of gold at the 2004 Olympics. With a victory, the Americans would face either Spain or Russia in a possible gold medal game.
