White Sox Option Jordan Danks To Triple-A, Promote Donnie Veal To Replace Him

The Chicago White Sox have promoted left-handed relief pitcher Donnie Veal from Triple-A Charlotte, the team announced on Monday. Veal takes the spot of outfielder Jordan Danks, who was demoted to Charlotte on Sunday, just two days after hitting a walk-off home run against the Oakland Athletics.

Veal, 27, has spent essentially the entire season with Charlotte, proving to be one of the top relief pitchers on the team. Over 50 innings this year, Veal has posted a 2.16 ERA with 57 strikeouts and 22 walks, easily the best numbers of his minor league career.

Previously, Veal has appeared in 21 big league games, including two with the White Sox this season. He's struggled badly with his command throughout his career, and even this season his walk rate isn't especially low. He's been limiting homers and piling up strikeouts, though, leaving some optimism that he's finally turning the corner on the mound.
