Challenging the local hero Andy Murray, Swiss legend Roger Federer won his seventh career Wimbledon title in four sets on Sunday afternoon at the All England Club in London. Now ranked No. 3 in the world, Federer presumably disappointed many in England with his 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 victory over the Glasgow native.
Murray took the first set of the match before falling behind 2-1 through three sets. He battled early in the fourth to take a 2-1 advantage over Federer, but he dropped the next three games and couldn't come back with Federer leading 4-2.
Trailing 5-4 in the final set of the championship, the crowd was cheering Murray's name in the hopes of a comeback, but Federer quieted those chants while proving that he's still to be considered one of the elite names in men's tennis.
Federer is no longer quite in his prime, but he clearly still has a good deal left in the tank after winning his first major championship since the 2010 Australian Open this week. Even at 30 years old, he was able to handle Murray, who was seeking to become the first British man to win the Wimbledon since 1936.
