Michael Phelps Helps U.S. Win Silver In Men's 4x100m Freestyle Relay Final

The U.S. got off to strong start in the men's 4x100m Freestyle Relay Final on Sunday thanks to a fine effort from Michael Phelps, but France eventually made up the distance to claim the gold medal. The U.S. team, which featured Ryan Lochte, Cullen Jones and Nathan Adrian in addition to Phelps, took home the silver.

Adrian, who led off for the U.S., gave the team the lead with a solid run, which Phelps then extended in the second leg. Jones swam third and kept the Americans ahead, though he wasn't able to add to the lead. Lochte carried the lead into the final 50 meters, where he was overtaken by the French.

The United States has won 11 medals in London, placing it second in the overall medal count through the first two days. China leads with 12 medals and Italy is third with seven.
