In the first day of 2012 Wimbledon action, a Chicago-native went home early (as did a legend), while the top player in tennis advanced. That Chicago-based participant is Donald Young, who lost to No. 26 ranked Mikhail Youzhny ,4-6 6-3 6-2 6-2, in first round action. The big story of the day, though, was the loss by Venus Williams, who fell to fellow unranked competitor Elena Vesnina, 6-1 6-3.
Back on the men's side, top ranked Novak Djokovic cruised past Juan Carlos Ferrero, 6-3 6-3 6-1. Third ranked Roger Federer is also on his way to advancing, as he's currently beating Albert Ramos, 6-1 6-1 3-0. American James Blake, though, lost this morning to unranked Benjamin Becker, 6-7 7-5 6-0 6-4.
