Mike Brey Contract Extension Interview: Notre Dame Coach Signs 10-Year Deal, Talks About Past And Future

On Tuesday June 19, Notre Dame vice president and director of athletics Jack Swarbrick announced a 10-year contract extension with head basketball coach Mike Brey, effective July 1, 2012 and runnning through June 30, 2022. Brey has the third-most wins in Notre Dame basketball history (260 wins -132 losses) and is a three-time Coach of the Year in the Big East (2007, 2008 and 2011). He has coached the Fighting Irish to nine 20-win seasons, including six-straight seasons with 20+ wins. Perhaps the most impressive mark under Brey's leadership is the 100-7 (.935) mark at home over the past six years.

On Tuesday he spoke about what the new deal means to him (via UND.com):

"As I have said on many occasions throughout my time here at Notre Dame, I am both honored and humbled to be the head coach at this very special place," Brey says. "When I took the job here nearly 13 years ago, I felt that this could be a place where I could retire from coaching. With the terms of this new contract, I certainly intend for it to be my last coaching stop."

Here are a few portions from his contract extension interview:
