2012 U.S. Open Golf Leaderboard: Luke Donald Struggles Badly, Finishes Thursday At 9-Over

Northwestern University graduate Luke Donald had a miserable first day at the 2012 U.S. Open, finishing at 9-over by bogeying half of the 18 holes that he played on Thursday. Paired with Lee Westwood and Rory McElroy, none of the three players finished better than 3-over on Day 1 at Olympic Club in San Francisco, Calif.

On the day, Donald bogeyed the first, second, fifth, sixth, tenth, 11th, 13th, 14th and 16th holes as part of a frustrating effort. Considered one of the favorites entering the tournament, Donald never really looked comfortable, failing to get a single birdie in his first day.

Donald is currently tied for 140th in the field, which is led by Michael Thompson, who finished the first day at 4-under. Five different golfers- Tiger Woods, David Toms, Nick Watney, Graeme McDowell and Justin Rose- are tied for second at 1-under.
