Austin Collinsworth Injury: Collinsworth Will Miss Entire 2012 Season

Notre Dame Fighting Irish back up safety Austin Collinsworth (and son of NBC's Cris Collinsworth) is expected to miss the entire 2012 season after undergoing shoulder surgery, the school confirmed on Wednesday morning. Collinsworth injured his shoulder during this year's Blue-Gold game on April 21, and recovery is slated to last four-to-six months, which covers nearly the entire college football season.

Collinsworth made 18 tackles as a junior last season, playing as a reserve and on special teams. With the Irish's defense remaining unsettled, Collinsworth might have had a chance to see an expanded role, but he will instead spend the season watching from the sidelines. Per the South Bend Tribune, the Irish have 11 other safeties on the roster.
