American Andy Roddick is out of the 2012 French Open after losing his opening-round match to Frenchman Nicolas Mahut in four sets, 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 2-6. Roddick is winless on clay courts this season.

Elsewhere on the men's side, No. 5 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga defeated Andrey Kuznetsov in four sets and No. 9 Juan Martin del Potro took care of Albert Montanes.
