After a week-plus of qualifying races and other pre-race activities, race day at Indianapolis Motor Speedway has arrived. Pole position belongs to Team Penske's Ryan Briscoe, who will be joined on the first row of the grid by James Hinchcliffe and Ryan Hunter-Reay of Andretti Autosport. Briscoe finished 27th in last year's race, while Hinchcliffe finshed 29th and Hunter-Reay 23rd.
Last year's winner was Dan Wheldon, who died this past October after in an accident at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. This year's Indy 500 does feature three past winners, including three-time champion Helio Castroneves, as well as 2008 winner Scott Dixon and two-time winner Dario Franchitti. Castroneves will start off in row two, with Dixon in row five and Franchitti in row six.
