The Chicago White Sox have opened the season well enough on the road, and they hold a respectable 3-2 record, but the intensity will really ramp up for the first time in their 2012 MLB season as they take on the Detroit Tigers in the home opener on Friday afternoon. The Tigers have been on fire so far this year and are already 5-1, so starter Jake Peavy will be put to the test against Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera.
His counterpart, Max Scherzer, has one of those weird early-season lines with a 23.63 ERA after he gave up seven runs over 2 2/3 innings in his first start of the season, but Scherzer has been solid against the Sox in the past. Here is a quick scouting report on him from the crew at South Side Sox:
Max, whose last name means "sheared", is a strikeout pitcher with good command and control. His main weakness though is the longball. His three year average for homeruns allowed is 23. Unsurprisingly, this makes him a better pitcher at Comerica than away. Scherzer throws a mid-90s four seamer, a slider, and a changeup.
For the Tigers, Brandon Inge has completed his rehab assignment in Toledo and will rejoin the team in Chicago for the weekend series, according to MLIVE. Here's the lineup for the Sox:
Sox lineup:De Aza CF, Morel 3B, Dunn DH, Konerko 1B, A.J CRiosRF, Ramirez SS, Viciedo LF, Beckham 2B, Peavy P— Mark Gonzales (@MDGonzales) April 13, 2012
