The Notre Dame Fighting Irish punctuated a fantastic regular season in the Big East with a 75-69 win over the Providence Friars on March 2, a victory that pushed the Irish to 21-10 overall and 13-5 in the Big East. Following consecutive road losses to St. John's and Georgetown, the win was much needed for Notre Dame before it takes the floor in the Big East Tournament. Notre Dame received a double-bye in the conference tournament and won't play until Thursday, but when they Irish do take the court, it will be with the No. 23 overall ranking in the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches Poll.

The Irish fall from No. 19 to No. 23 in the latest edition of the Coaches Poll, garnering 134 points this week. The only team to drop out of the poll is Louisville, who fell from No. 18 overall. Gonzaga took Louisville's spot and is currently positioned at No. 25.
