Remember that play where that guy from Cal ran a kickoff back for a game winning touchdown, knocking over a few Stanford band members in the process? I believe they call that "The Play". Anyway, last year NIU linebacker Jamaal Bass had a similar experience with the Toledo band... minus the glory... and being during a game... and lack of assault charges.
Yep, that's right, Bass is not only being suspended for two games, but is now being charged with assault after the Ohio grand jury decided it was malicious enough contact to charge Bass with one count of felony assault and one count of misdemeanor assault. Slow motion video of the incident following the jump.
Bass is #6 on the far right side of the video.
I've looked over the video a few times now and it is hard to see if the contact is malicious or accidental, but it does appear Bass hurts two separate band members. As they say, "That's assault, brother."
