After a season-ending injury to Tim Abromaitis, few people would have expected to hear Notre Dame's name called on Selection Sunday. However, Mike Brey and his coaching staff helped this team rally around the disappointment of losing their senior leader and put together a truly impressive season. Instead of crumbling, the Fighting Irish finished third in the Big East and advanced to the semifinals of the Big East Tournament.
Unfortunately, it does not look like this will be the season that Northwestern earns its first tournament berth. Despite a handful of opportunities at the end of the season to earn signature wins, the Wildcats faltered down the stretch and likely will be headed to the NIT.
Syracuse, which won the Big East regular-season championship, has almost assuredly sealed a No. 1 seed. Along with the Orange, the Kentucky Wildcats have an excellent opportunity of being the No.1 overall seed when the 68-team field is announced.
