NCAA Tournament 2012 Bracket Update: Notre Dame Is No. 7, Will Face No. 10 Xavier

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are a X seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Irish will play No. X X in the opening round on Xday.

The 2012 NCAA Tournament bracket and field has been announced, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will receive a No. 7 seed in the South region. The Fighting Irish's first opponent will be the No. 10 Xavier Musketeers, and they will play on Friday, March 16 at 8:45 p.m. CT in Greensboro, N.C..

The Irish earned the No. 7 seed after finishing third in the Big East during the regular season. The Fighting Irish's seed may have been affected by a semifinal upset loss to Louisville in the 2012 Big East Tournament. On the whole, Notre Dame was 23-12 and 13-5 in the Big East this season.

The Musketeers received a No. 10 seed after losing to St. Bonaventure in the championship game of the Atlantic 10 Tournament.
