2012 NBA Rising Star Challenge Result: Kyrie Irving Shines Brightest In Victory

Derrick Rose is indisputably the best point guard in the Eastern Conference, but he may soon have Kyrie Irving nipping at his heels. Irving, who is considered the frontrunner for NBA Rookie of the Year, dazzled the All-Star crowd in Orlando on Friday night, scoring 34 points and making all eight of his three point attempts in Team Chuck's (the squad drafted by Charles Barkley) 146 victory over Team Shaq (the squad drafted by Shaquille O'Neal).

Team Chuck finished the game having shot 64% from the field and 55% (11-20) from three, though only MarShon Brooks and Paul George hit shots from long range besides Irving. Team Shaq, on the other hand, was surprisingly deadly from three, shooting 29% on a whopping 41 attempts. Team Shaq had the biggest stars in the event, which was more of a cures than a blessing, as Jeremy Lin and Blake Griffin only combined to play less than 20 minutes on the night.

Griffin will also take the court in the big boy All-Star game on Sunday, and Lin will reportedly make an appearance or two in tomorrow night's All-Star festivities.
