The Notre Dame Fighting Irish (2-0) managed to comeback late and give RHP Adam Norton (W, 1-0) a much deserved win against the Iowa Hawkeyes (1-1).
The game started poorly for Norton, who gave a up leadoff single to CF Taylor Zeutenhorst and walked DH Dan Sheppard to put runners on first and second with no outs. Norton then gave up a sac fly, hit a batter and allowed an RBI single, putting Notre Dame in a 0-2 deficit.
Norton settled down, though, and proceeded to collect ground outs and strikeouts as the Irish looked to come back. After putting up a run with help from a LF Eric Jagielo double (4 for 5 with 2 doubles and 1 BB) in the 5th inning, the Irish finally broke through in 8th, tagging RP Ricky Sandquist (L, 0-1) for 4 ER on two singles, two doubles, an intentional walk and a sac fly.
C Joe Hudson (2 for 2 with 2 doubles and 2 BB) also had a strong day, powering the offense while also catching Norton's complete game. Norton finished the day with 9.0 IP, 4 K, 1 B, 2 ER and 13 ground outs to give the Irish a 5-2 win.
